If you are truly an animal lover, this heartwarming story is for you. I laughted and cried through this story, but whether or not you want to believe this is a work of fiction or non-fiction (as some of the other readers believe it is not true), this book is truly worth reading. Their love for one another is very evident, and written on every page.
This is the story of a boy and elephant, born on the same day, who grew up with each other. The shipwreck and subsequent saving of Modoc, Bram and a few others was simply amazing. Even though the author does not include years when these incidents happened except for the year of birth, it is perhaps because it happened so long ago that information is hard to come by.
Their adventures together are incredible and well described. The boy becomes a man and the elephant's caretaker throughout both their lives. The bond between man and beast is unbreakable.
Different cultures are explored, especially in the teak jungles of India. I did not want this book to come to an end.
My wife read this and liked it so much she loaned it to someone who never returned it so I purchased it here. Great read particularly given that it was a True story. A bit heavy handed at the end but reflected the feelings of the author no doubt.Reminded me of Slum Dog millionaire with a more realistic, less theatrical ending.Quick read and learned a lot about elephants as a side benefit.
The absolutely astonishing story of the relationship between a boy and his elephant. There are moments in the story when you question whether the events in the story can be real, as the life of Bram and Modoc is fantastical. However I still highly recommend this book, as I think that it is a great read.
That makes it very spiritual in my estimation. This is one of those rare books that touched my heart to its very core. It is full of adventure. If you are not an animal lover, it may help you kindle feelings of empathy for God's other creatures. The book is really a love story. Get ready for an unforgettable adventure and get out your box of tissues. It is a book that will captivate children as well as adults. The wonderful aspect of the book is how the author makes Modoc, the elephant, seem more lovably human than many humans actually are.
I am always on the outlook for books that will inspire me. It is a fantastic tale of a boy and an elephant that spanned their lifetimes. Since I am the author of a series of spiritually-themed books, t[.]. You will feel such a bond with Modoc. If you are an animal lover, this book will really strike a home run for you. This is a book that WILL inspire your spirit and move you as perhaps you have never been moved by a story.
This book might just transform you.Davis Aujourd'hui, author of "The Misadventures of Sister Mary Olga Fortitude"
